The 100 km N24 is not included in either the 2010 program to upgrade all interurban roads in the country connecting with Dublin, nor the Atlantic Corridor project to create a new north-south axis along the country's west coast. Nonetheless, it connects two regional cities of major importance, and needs 2+2 dual carriageway at least and higher standard bypasses of its many intermediate towns such as Tipperary, Clonmel, Cahir and Carrick-on-Suir. At Limerick, the route would start at the M7 Limerick Ring Road, and terminate at the M9 Dublin-Waterford motorway northwest of Waterford.
