a weblog about girleens that travel. read of their adventures!

Its been a thing of mine to find out how to say cheers in 47 languages for years, 47 being my favourite number. I have a book back in Ireland with about 16 languages in it but here’s a few I remember now and if anyone has more to add just add comments and then we should have full list by the end fo the year.

1. Cheers - English
2. Slainte - Irish (pronounced slahn-che)
3. Prost - German

There’s a few others I know phonetically in Croatian, Hungarian, Polish, Arabic etc. but if our native speaking friends can add in comments with the real spelling and phonetic sounds I’d appreciate it.

I love the ideas, I love the energy but I have never in my life heard the saying slainte mo foes, not even from you Karen! I don’t know whether to count the same word and spelling for different countries Kev. Can ya do a bit of the ould phonetical writing so I can see if they sound different? Sure don’t bother I’d say there’s no difference what with the Germans and Dutch being so close. More people, more!
