a weblog about girleens that travel. read of their adventures!

Well I haven’t put any photos up in a while though there’s a bit of a problem with one of my memory cards so lots of photos are missing for the moment. Hopefully it’ll be sorted soon enough. Hope ye all enjoy these for now.

York town, on my day-trip to Wave Rock with…

Stephanie, Kiwi chick who was on her way to visit her sis and then to work in London, how goes it Steph?

Dog cemetry. Started by Paddy in 1974 for his best friend Strike. Now people from all over come to bury their best buds here. Aw!

Hippo’s Yawn. Looks pretty good, eh?

Riding the radical wave at Wave Rock.

People are dwarfed by this unusual formation, purportedly created by the Great Woggle by the Aboriginal peoples of the surrounding area.

Aboriginal signatures at the Humps. The hand prints are usually straight on but these are believed to be those of Malkos, the cross-eyed Aboriginal.

Aboriginal painting of a kangaroo hunt.

Lake created by rain water.

Sisters, are doing it for themselves! Dee and Laura look simply delighted with themselves, and fabulous of course.

Me on Rottnest Island taking shadow pictures to pass the lazy day away.

Gorgeous deserted beaches on my cycle round the island. Dear god was I pooped!

A Quokka joins me and some of the heads from the hostel that evening at the pool table. Unfortunately, I didn’t get any pictures of them drunk on the streets, or of the lobster hunt later that night.

More of the beauty of Rottnest.

My Donnybrook adventures begin! Pear picking, only got pics of me on the first day.

Don’t I only look delighted!

Vincent bares all while picking. Such a hard Frenchman!

David from Dun Laoghaire teaches pear-picking 101.

My camera’s robbed for self-portraits!

Me, Elsa (Vincent’s girl-friend, who tried out the packing but didn’t recommend it), David and Vincent, hang-out before the French part.

If I look a little scared, its cos I was. Beware of Algerians who invite you to lone locations and go on a lot about your looks. Never got easier to deal with Kamal really. Thanks for this David! Hmm…

Lisa (she was travelling about with Laura for a lot of the year and is now home hopefully finding work) and I on our first free drink of Paddy’s night. Really was the best thing about being in Donnybrook for Paddy’s Day.

Lisa, David, Ant (marvellous cook, thanks for Sunday roast!) and Lucy in an odd establishment from Paddy’s night.

Yes, they did give us more and more free drink. Could ya guess?

Britta, my first room-mate, Lisa, Amy and Lucy, who were all staying at the other hostel. Amy and Lucy were sticking around Donnybrook for another 2 months, god help them.

As you can see Britta really enjoyed my company.

Britta, Lucy and Amy are shadowed by Art, the owner of the Red Rabbit Inn. What a fine establishment it is!

Donnybrook’s main and only street was always hopping.

Warnings by the river. Lets all go for a dip! Course Britta, the German, was in there like a light!

Have ya guessed what Donnybrook’s main output is? If not this may explain it better than words. I mean its quite obviously apples, hills and bras!

Re-united with the girls, plus Fee at this stage. I had to get a picture when we’d reached Nannup. Twas so nice to have someone cooking for me!

Lids is oblivious to the danger hanging over her at the Black Cockadoo, Nannup.

Funky bathrooms have become all the range. I had a feeling I was being watched while showering though.

Dee climbs the Diamond Tree look-out near Walpole.

Dee takes a look at how far up the tree she’s come.

The trees on the tree-top looked so amazing they almost looked alive!

Dee, Fee and Lids pose on the tree-top walk.

Those timers on digital cameras are so deadly.

My precious…………….

Hopefully I’ll have more soon

The Red Rabbit! That’s where I stayed! Only it was owned by Morrie, and called something else, a Nomad backpackers or something. Dear God. Tell me which room you stayed in, if it’s the one I was in then I hope you got clean sheets! Hopefully it wasn’t quite as ‘quaint’ as when I stayed there.

Hey Tee!! Love the photos, they bring back lots of fond Donnybrook memories, and of course of the free drink extravaganza that was Paddy’s Day!! Also love the classy ‘Goon in the Coke bottle’ shot of me! Gotta love the Red Rabbit and their BYO policy! Anyway, happy travels, enjoy Melbourne, weather can’t be any shittier than Dublin, so bloody wet here!!
    Take care, xx
