a weblog about girleens that travel. read of their adventures!

hey all,

Yeah so made it to Thailand, was meeting my dad, sister and Helen in Ko Samui. Myself and Laura arrived on a early hot humid day on the island and didn’t take me too long to remember how it all worked… We were in no fit state to haggle the way we could so for an agreeable fee we set off in a taxi to the Imperial Hotel.
After waiting about 10 mins for the family to get outta bed they finally arrived to the lobby area to greet us with video camera in hand. The hotel was gorgoeus, I would of been happy sleeping in the lobby with it’s big cushens and air conditioned room, passing the pool I couldn’t wait till I got into that and the room then themselves were very spacious. with Tv Dvd and sliding bathroom doors. This was a big step up to the shacks on the beach i stayed in!!! So when the hype died down there was a knock at the door and who walks in only my mother!!, haha it was a big surprise and Laura the crybaby started crying and we were quite amazed they had organised that. So happy families again we went for a big slap up breakfast.

Went straight from there to Ko Pha- Ngan and after alot of waiting at the ferry port our pick up finally arrived..and thats exactly what it was a ‘pick-up’, with only 4 passenger seats in it,myself and laura jumped in the back with all the luggage. Forty mins and alot of pot holes later we arrive at the Panviman Resort. This was the North East of the island. Our house had a gorgeous few of the beach and the surrounding forests. The pool was the nicest resort pool I had ever seen (my fav pool being the olympic swimming pool in Barcelona). The only thing is it was a abit a way from everything but I was there to relax and had no money to shop anyway!, So we stayed there for a couple of days, we got two really sunny days and then the rain came. We also heard some pretty cool thunder storms at night. The food was gorgeous too with the popular dish being chicken and cashew nuts.

Back to the Imperial then in Ko Samui for another 2 days and then it was off to Bangkok where we stayed at the Armada Hotel. This was a 34 floor swish hotel but I don’t think the staff are that friendly and they don’t fill up your coffee sachets unless you ask. We spent a day shopping in the MBK center, Still mayhem in there but picked up a pair of shoes for the wedding for 12 euros. Myself and Laura also got a taxi out to Khao San Road to get our cheap Puma runners, That seemed quiet with all it’s stalls off the road for some reason but operation Puma completed.

It was just Laura and I on the flight home, I watched Matchpoint and finally got to watch the film Crash, had a sleep-in on the plane and woke at 11 for some breakfast. Then alot of queues at Heathrow airport which a big bag of peanut M&M’s got us through and then a quick flight back to dublin and before we knew it, we were sitting in my grandparents house having a cup a tea!!

The above Post is not with the usual references to cheap stuff, everything above was not so cheap except the shoes and pumas. My older sister Ciara has expensive taste and she wasn’t doing it the backpackers way like LTD

Must have been that chat that you and I had with your mam Dee when we were leaving Perth that convinced her she needed to come over. The backpacker days are held in check for you Dee my dear.
