Well the numerous renditions of “Let It Snow” and other various snow songs, didn’t seem to stick, so to speak. Every Dubliner seemed to be worried by the prospect of travelling in snow and thus it looked like chaos on the roads to me, as I sauntered to work this morning. I was feeling all good about myself, and not a little bit smug, as I toddled by the people in their cars whose knuckles were going white with the stress, and after hearing about crashes, when, as I neared work, some little fecker sped up and purposefully pulled in on the deep puddles soaking me. I suppose one could venture that god was teaching me humility and such, but did she have to leave me like a drowned brown rat on my right side? When I got in I had to stand in my oh so sexy thermals (buy a pair, they’re fantastic, especially since I dumbfoundedly seem to be feeling the cold a lot more than I used to, must be age) at the hand-dryer for at least 30 minutes till they were dry. Oh the hardships of life, eh?
Speaking of hardships, my monetary stability is going to be severely hit over the coming months. I’d also say, in all probability, my sanity too. Pops has started proceedings on the abode that will be my future home. I’ve somewhat convinced him more to make it as eco-friendly as possible, and though he pisses and moans about it and basically calls me a muppet for wanting to do the house differently, he’s getting on board all the same. Don’t ya just love folks? They tell you how to live your life, but once you stand your own ground they grumpily give in. Or maybe that’s just my Pops. He’s an uphill struggle, but sure I love him. He’s amazing at this sort of organisation. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets the place done in half the time he’s set down.
I have to say I had the nicest Sunday just gone by. Spent it in the company of Tongie, and some of her mates. On the Saturday I’d hooked up with Lids and Dee to watch Dublin disappoint us in the beautiful surroundings of a flood lit Croke Park. Then I played some Wii back at Dave’s house, which is officially the only computer game I can play cos it involves me actually moving, since I feck up on joystick games all the time due to my inability to stop dodging what’s happening on screen. Since I missed the last bus to Tallafornia, I thought I’d randomly visit my friend Lisa, which turned into a night on her couch and waking up in the city. On Sunday, we did lunch (at a gorgeous place on Wicklow St called Lunch), wandered around, watched Ireland beat Wales, listened to some fabulous music in The Dame Tavern and just generally had a wonderfully relaxing day. I recommend Tongie’s company to one and all! The England v Ireland match in Croker should be something to watch. I heard about some comment made by an Irish guy on The Times website in Britain, which basically went like, that if Brian O’Driscoll was out due to injury it would be bad for Ireland in the game, but that it wouldn’t be as bad as the last time the British came to Croker in tanks! Collective, oooo…
I got my invitation to the wedding of Kasia and Gerry (of Perth hosting fame) this morning too. They’re getting hitched on 12th September in Connemara. I just can’t wait to see them back in Eire. Its nearly a year since I last saw them, they’re just the koolest people. The week of partying should be unbelievable too. Polish and Irish get-togethers are nothing if not memorable.
Has everyone started to watch Battlestar Galactica? I saw a new episode on Tuesday. Just mind-blowing stuff, man! It just keeps me guessing. I love it. If anyone wants to get caught up I got the mini-, first and second series at home, so you can check it out. I watched it with my mate Damien the other night and it started us off on a tangent about Greek mythology and the nature/experience of life.
Work is going grand. Its just a contract reception shindig, so there’s no point in stressing or getting over involved. Its a lovely company, and the people are just jewels. Last night I got to discussing careers with my sister-in-law Diana. She’s finally able to look for a job, as she’s now legal in Ireland, it only took near 2 years! She’s really excited about getting back to part-time work, as she’ll be juggling work with her kid Zoe. She’s considering a departure from retail, which she’s done before, and just trying something new. I was saying I enjoy being an employee as I don’t have much if any stress, but she was saying that she believes that I’d be capable of being an employer. I suppose that surprised me as I never thought for a second that I could do that. For myself I don’t know what direction I’m going to take with work. I enjoy many things, but don’t see myself committing to one above all else. I suppose that’ll come when I least expect it. I know how incredibly lucky I am to have such an ability to choose where life leads me. It’s just so sad that everyone doesn’t have that capability. Ya just have to be so thankful that you don’t have to worry every day about having enough food, shelter or water. Sorry, that was my middle-class guilt statement for the day!
Got an e-mail from gorgeous Mel, my adopted Melbournian sister. She was saying she’ll be heading to Europe around Christmas and that she wants to travel to South America next year. I’ll have a gang by the time I end up going, what with Tongie interested and Lids thinking of doing the summer over there next year. Tis great news. Sure the more, the merrier!
Woohoo! Its started to snow and I just found out I’m getting off at 16:30! This day is just fantastic. Though I’d prefer an early end to Friday! Hint, hint. Nudge, nudge!
Right well, I’m done with my rambling for today. Hope all are well. Pray that the snow sticks so you can snuggle up to your loved ones, and/or pillow.
You could snuggle up to a wet otter. In this weather it would still be an improvement over being outside. If it helps, you could sing “Let it sleet”.
Maybe you could sing it in a duet with the wet otter, because the word on the street is that they are down with the duets. And whistling noises.
Well thanks for the idea Kev, but in all fairness I think I’d prefer a pillow. But I love the random so maybe if I find an otter shaped person or object that’ll do for the moment. There’s something about having something wet in my bed, like an otter, that just doesn’t really appeal to me though. As for duets, I prefer to sing along to the radio.
