a weblog about girleens that travel. read of their adventures!

Just got some pictures of the summer solstice evening that friends and I went out to a few weeks back and thought I’d put up some photos. Gonna be putting up photos from over the last few months, cos I’ve just got my hands on a few lately, due to not having my own camera, I have to rob from others. Ah well. Hope you enjoy.
This was the first summer solstice celtic event that I’ve attended. I didn’t know what to expect, and it would’ve been so much better if I could have camped over to enjoy the full thing, but it was a good taster. It was great to have some foreign friends, as well as other Irish, in the form of Laura and Nicky, out there with me. Just disappointed I never managed to do some barefoot dancing, as I didn’t think the dancing ceremony would end so quickly. Ah well, there’s always another year in the future to try it. Though they run events like this throughout the year at Tara, so perhaps I’ll manage to get to one of those.

View from Hill of Tara to the south. It was raining hard on our way up, but once we got out of Dublin the sun broke through, and the raining stopped. We were magically lucky.

Hillside on fire through the grass.
Me with the statue of St Patrick, and the county flags in the background.

Lovely Lili, pondering Peter (Peadar) and delicious Dani listening to the ritual blessings.

The crowd gathered for the ritual.

A Druid leads the blessings in his traditional garb, and encourages all to join in the dancing and chanting.

A Polish, a German and a Spaniard walk into a field… Thomas, rocky Robin and Dani.

Who will be the High King? Well the stone didn’t sing, so none of us!

Celtic cross with the beautiful Irish countryside, on a storm swept, but soft sunshine enhanced evening.

Picnic on the wet grass. Luckily the boys had brought their trusty plastic sheets!

Picnic by night. Laura, Nicky, Dani, Lili, Robin, me and Thomas standing.
