a weblog about girleens that travel. read of their adventures!

It was an experience, that’s for sure. I met my friend Keith Magee at 13:00 at the CHQ to put our heads in the hands of little boys. Keith is a fellow charity earner who has managed to get around 700 Euro so far for War Child, a very worthy cause to which you can donate here if you so choose. It’s mad actually, we both thought of doing this for charity independently, though I possibly would have done for the experience itself. We sat outside in the sun enjoying the wind flowing through our lovely locks till all our photographers arrived. Thanks to Keith’s mates I have photographic evidence, which shall be forwarded to me soon. The kids kept coming out to us and asking us if we wanted haircuts while we shook our locks for the camera. One lad kept pointing at Keith with a little manic grin. He was dying to shave his head.
Around 13:30 we headed in. All the boys cutting hair were from 6th class of St Joseph’s in Fairview. We both had to fill in a disclaimer that cited we could sue Mammalian Diving Reflex for any “bodily harm” that could come to pass, which filled us with warm and fuzzy feelings…of fear. I was introduced by Natalie from MDR to my stylist Sean, and one of the other boys suggested that Sean show his “client” to a chair. That made me laugh I tell ya. So Sean sat me down and asked me what I’d like, and I told him a bit of a trim. He was a bit nervous as I was the first person’s hair he would cut. So we chatted a bit about how he’d been practicing on dummies during the week, I was his first haircut. He looked for guidance from Natalie, soaked my hair, combed my hair, which I think was the hardest part for him as he was worried of hurting me, and then made the first cut. Jeff, who was one of our photographers, made a comment about half my hair being gone, but Sean was away in a hack and I was in his hands by that stage. I told him the story of Samson’s strength being taken away when his hair was cut, and we chatted about his school. I thought I’d be more nervous, but it was just a weird experience. I felt like I was giving him some confidence in the trust I was giving him by letting him at my head at all. I was the first girl in there, and you could tell he was somewhat amazed that I’d let him near me at all, especially since his mother was taking photos and saying stuff about me being brave letting him at my head. He was brave to do it! I don’t think I would’ve cut anyone’s hair at his age, including my own. Thanks Lids for coming down to view the results, you were a comfort!
Agus anois, The Haircut edit: 5th October 2007: Just got a YouTube link to view mine and my mate Keith’s haircuts. Check it out.
The rest of the day was spent enjoying Sunday in the city. Taking in the free performances to end the Dublin Fringe Festival in the city, having brunch in at a friend’s workplace, The Larder, on Parliament St, having a stein upstairs in the Beer Halle of the Bull and Castle with my mate Teresa from Portugal, and finally getting some quality time with Laura and some others in the Bleu Note for the evening. I do so love Sundays in the city. Hope you all had a nice weekend. I’m looking forward to my cruise on the river Shannon this weekend. Also getting excited about Hogmanay in Edinburgh for New Years’ Eve. Laura and I, and hopefully the other parts of LTD will be heading over. Anyone want to join?!
Just came across this interesting little site set up by Marco Herbst the other day. Haven’t joined, because I’ve got enough to be doing at the moment, but some of you may be interested in something a little random and different. Go on try Lunch.ie!
