Hola!
So we’re leaving soon for Habana. We’ve to get 2 buses, and it’ll take us about a day and a half to get there, but way cheaper than flying! I’ve been sickly since yesterday and it has sucked ass because we missed out on going to the beach yesterday to learn how to make a thatched roof and cook freshly caught fish, but sure you can’t have everything! We’re in Baracoa, which is the furthest town east of the country, and the first place in Cuba that Columbus landed. Its a gorgeous town where we’ve set out to have all manner of easy going days, but they’ve always ended in adventure. Trust us! I get ahead of myself though. Trinidad was great and we met lovely people there, though our forray into the world of hustlers didn’t work out. We arrived late into Santiago de Cuba, met our little old casa particulares mother named Dulce (and sweet she was) who was a serious Communist, and headed out to Casa de la Trova, the main music joint in Santiago. Most tourists that had been here said it was a dive with nothing to do, but we had a serious 2 day museum and nature visiting stay. We found it a spectacular city altogether. Plus we got some mad stories like the 2 lads I mentioned in the comment on the last post. Funny as feck!
Baracoa has been an adventure, as I said. Firstly I’d like to make a confession to my LTD counterparts. Its happened, I now eat pineapple and cucumber. Necessity is the mother of all life changing events. Though I’m still anti-tuna and coconut. Especially coconut. That’s the fecker that made me sick the other day. Running out of time here, but basically we got lost on Sunday going to the beach and ended up in a swimming cave, which was actually a 40 minute hike, as opposed to the 5 minute walk we were advised it was. It was like a Gollum cave. The beach was spectacular when we finally made it. Small with white sand. Tuesday we went for another easy day to a museum, which is in a cave. Turned out to be a serious adventure with lack of lights, shaky stairs, etc. Then on Wednesday we conquered El Yunque. Its much more exciting than it sounds, but I’ve 30 seconds to post!
Bye!
